These stunning designs by
Nicola Stein: Kildalton Cross, Islay Geese, Finlaggan and Bridgend lend themselves beautifully to the dramatic natural backdrop of our rich black or smokey grey slates.
Finlaggan Sword - Finlaggan: from where the Lords of the Isles, some of the most powerful figures in the country, once ruled the Scottish islands and part of the west coast of Scotland almost wholely independent of royal control. The ancient ruins lie on three islands situated in Loch Finlaggan, and with the exception of a wooden walkway which takes us to the islands, the site remains virtually untouched to this day.
Our dramatic Finlaggan wall hanging / table mat depicts the famous sword set within a detailed border. The designs depict the impressions of the stonework and days of battle: the warrior carvings which lie amongst the ruins, and nature: the Geese which graze on the peaceful surrounding hills, and the rustling reeds which bend gracefully in the breeze and beckon you to the loch.
Kildalton Cross - Kildalton Cross is one of Islay's most famous landmarks. Dating from the second half of the 8th century, the cross is one of the most well preserved examples of early Christian crosses in Scotland.
This beautiful design depicts the High Cross of Kildalton with the detailed carvings on the east side as they might have originally appeared. The ornate border features symbols from the original Cross designs and the warrior carvings which lie within the church, all joined by the mesmorisingly intricate lines and patterns which are so characteristic of Celtic art.
Islay Geese - The phenomenum of the thousands of barnacle Geese who migrate to our shores every autumn is an integral part of Islay's natural allure. The sound and sight of these beautiful birds as they take off for flight is breathtaking.
Bridgend - In autumn: the branches of the trees are bare, the reeds beautifully frame the view of the shore to where the Geese land...and the spirit of the Celtic Dragon is never far away.
